What Professionals Say About
the Summer Treatment Program
(continued from previous page)

One of the most impressive aspects of the STP is its focus on tailoring treatment to children’s individual needs. Those of us who have worked in the STP and incorporated STP procedures into our own treatment programs have seen success story after success story for children for whom other treatments were simply not sufficient.

The Columbia site…ran a highly successful STP…despite the fact that the director is a child psychiatrist with no special training in behavioral principles. Clinically significant improvements…were produced…. Progress of children receiving only behavioral treatments was indistinguishable from children who were receiving concomitant psychostimulant medications. Parents were highly pleased with their children’s progress, as were the children themselves, who made demonstrable improvements in self-esteem. I highly recommend the Summer Treatment Program as a core treatment for children with ADHD.

Associate Professor of Psychiatry

The STP is an impressive program that helps improve the self-esteem of all: the children, parents, and staff that are involved. All were amazed at the improvements demonstrated over a short, but intensive… period…At an 8-week follow-up parent group, parents and children expressed a visible pride in their achievements at home, school, and the community. The 8-week program served as a “spring board” that vaulted many to new heights and performance at home and school…
